190 million children are enrolled in India’s public schools. Most of our children live in poverty with a household income of $2 or less per day. These children are unable to cope with their reality – one filled with financial hardship, trauma and adversity.
This adversity affects not only their academic performance but also their overall well‑being, productivity, and life choices. This makes them extremely unlikely to break free from the cycle of generational poverty and learn effectively.

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is an international education best practice, which has proven to be one of the most powerful tools for social change and poverty reduction.
SEL plays a critical role in education, enabling children to develop the skills and abilities they need to succeed in school and beyond.
Research demonstrates that integration of SEL programming in schools leads to better education, employment and well‑being outcomes in children in the long run.
Labhya is on a mission to enable vulnerable children to become effective learners by integrating well‑being programs in public schools.
SEL is proven to be one of the most efficient systems of social change.
Every $1 invested into SEL yields a return of $11.

Labhya’s model is centered around children aged 5 to 15 years enrolled in public schools (K‑8) in India.
Labhya partners with Indian state governments to co‑create SEL and well‑being programs that are mandated and integrated across public schools. We take an institutional ecosystem approach to ensure an enduring transformation within the education system.
In partnership with the government, we cultivate a dynamic cadre of inspirational teacher trainers who work alongside the Labhya team to co‑create a localized culturally sensitive SEL and well‑being curriculum. Further, we support our partners in facilitating teacher capacity building workshops for educators and other relevant stakeholders throughout the year.
Labhya’s team is deployed across various levels of the government to support adoption and fidelity. This enables widespread government adoption and sustainability of our programs.

Tripura
In partnership with the government of Tripura, we have co‑created the Saharsh curriculum, which is a daily well‑being class, across all 4,000 public schools of Tripura. This class impacts 400,000 children in grades 1 to 8. This is North‑East India’s first in‑school program on children’s well‑being.
Uttarakhand
In partnership with the government of Uttarakhand, we have co‑created the Anandam Pathyacharya, which is a state‑mandated well‑being class, in over 18,000 public schools of Uttarakhand. Despite the challenging terrain, this highly localised curriculum reaches every child in public schools across the state.
Delhi
Labhya has supported the government of Delhi, in designing and implementing the Happiness Curriculum. Delhi’s Happiness Curriculum offers daily intensive classes for children in grades Nursery to 8, impacting over 1,000 public schools.
